Alexa Ehlers

My name is Alexa Ehlers, and I am beyond excited about having the opportunity to travel and represent the US with such fantastic people.

A little about myself:
I grew up with horses, and at age 8, joined Silver Stirrups Pony Club in the Red River Region. I watched my older sister, Kelsey, grow and eventually earn her ‘A’, something that definitely pushed me to complete my ratings.

I have been blessed with several opportunities to represent the US and my area in the past. I have ridden for Area V at the North American Junior Young Rider Championships on the CH-J CCI* team in ’10 and ’11, and the CH-Y CCI** in ’12.

I passed my ‘A’ in April of 2012 at age 17, and soon thereafter, graduated from Argyle High School in Texas. I grew up riding a Shetland pony until I was 10, a mustang until I was 12, and that is when I got my first “real” event horse at the Louisiana Downs racetrack. My little Thoroughbred mare took me from my ‘C-1’ to my ‘B’, and was the horse I took as a switch ride for my ‘A’. She was perfect to learn on, but my trainers convinced me to begin looking for another “upper-level” horse. That was when I found In Any Event or “Mitch”. He had competed up to Intermediate with a young rider from my area, but she was looking to sell him before leaving for college. I luckily stumbled upon him, and he took me to my first two-star last year. In getting a feel for “Mitch” I went to compete in the Hunter/Jumper circuit in 2011, and fell in love with a five-year old Hunter. His owner wanted to see him event, and asked me to take him to a few events. We really clicked, and I ended up buying Clear Approval or “Brownie” in 2012.

I began my first year as a Pre-Nursing student at the University of Kentucky in August, and look to be on track to getting accepted into the Nursing School next spring. I am also pledging the Kappa Delta Sorority and look toward initiation in March with excitement!

As for riding while in college, I am currently competing “Mitch” and “Brownie”, and hope to have them run at the Advanced and Intermediate levels by September.

Once again, I am beyond grateful for this opportunity, and want to thank all of the people who have helped me get to where I am. I can’t wait to show everyone what the USPC girls have got! USA!
